ALBEDO CITY2023–2024cyanotype, photography

As global temperatures continue to rise, scientists have proposed a straightforward solution: painting rooftops white to increase the reflectivity of built surfaces and redirect solar radiation back into the atmosphere.
The photographs were made in Greece, where whitewashed architecture has shaped the built landscape for centuries — not as a climate strategy, but as a vernacular response to heat. Transferred to paper through the cyanotype process, the images carry an additional inversion: the sun, whose excess energy the albedo hypothesis seeks to deflect, becomes the very instrument by which the pictures are made.
Albedo City is a utopian vision of a possible near future.
